Al-Ahqaf (The Sandhills)

46-20

And on that day those who did not believe will be presented before the fire (and it will be said), “”You took away (your share of) good things in your life of the world and you enjoyed in it, so this day you will be rewarded with the punishment of humility because you used to consider yourselves great in the earth without having the right to do so and because you used to transgress.”” (R 2)

وَيَوْمَ يُعْرَضُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا عَلَى النَّارِ أَذْهَبْتُمْ طَيِّبَاتِكُمْ فِي حَيَاتِكُمُ الدُّنْيَا وَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِهَا فَالْيَوْمَ تُجْزَوْنَ عَذَابَ الْهُونِ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْسُقُونَ

“Same to Verse No.18”

46-21

And mention (to them about) the brother of Aad (Hud), when he warned his people at Al Ahqaf (the sand hills). And indeed warners came before him and after him, (each one saying) that, “”Do not serve (worship) anyone except Allah, I fear for you the punishment of the great day.””

وَاذْكُرْ أَخَا عَادٍ إِذْ أَنْذَرَ قَوْمَهُ بِالْأَحْقَافِ وَقَدْ خَلَتِ النُّذُرُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا اللَّهَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

History of Aad and other communities is mentioned.

46-22

They said, “”Have you come to us to turn us away from our gods? Then bring to us that with which you threaten us, if you are of the truthful ones.””

قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا لِتَأْفِكَنَا عَنْ آلِهَتِنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

“Same to Verse No.21”

46-23

He said, “”The knowledge (thereof) is only with Allah and I convey to you only that which is communicated to me, but I see (that) you are an ignorant people.””

قَالَ إِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَأُبَلِّغُكُمْ مَا أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِ وَلَٰكِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُونَ

“Same to Verse No.21”

46-24

Then when they saw the (punishment in the form of) a cloud coming towards their valleys, they said, “”This is a cloud which will give us rain.”” No, it is that which you sought to be hastened on, wind in which is a painful punishment,

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَارِضًا مُسْتَقْبِلَ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ قَالُوا هَٰذَا عَارِضٌ مُمْطِرُنَا ۚ بَلْ هُوَ مَا اسْتَعْجَلْتُمْ بِهِ ۖ رِيحٌ فِيهَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

“Same to Verse No.21”

46-25

(it will) destroy everything by the command of its Fosterer. So they became such that nothing could be seen except their houses. Thus do We reward the criminal people.

تُدَمِّرُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ بِأَمْرِ رَبِّهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا لَا يُرَىٰ إِلَّا مَسَاكِنُهُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْقَوْمَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

“Same to Verse No.21”

46-26

And We had indeed established them in (a condition) in which We have not established you. And We made for them (the means of) hearing and seeing and the hearts, but their hearing and their seeing and their hearts were of no use to them in anything when they knowingly rejected Allah’s signs, and that which they used to mock at engulfed them. (R 3)

وَلَقَدْ مَكَّنَّاهُمْ فِيمَا إِنْ مَكَّنَّاكُمْ فِيهِ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ سَمْعًا وَأَبْصَارًا وَأَفْئِدَةً فَمَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُمْ سَمْعُهُمْ وَلَا أَبْصَارُهُمْ وَلَا أَفْئِدَتُهُمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِذْ كَانُوا يَجْحَدُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَحَاقَ بِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

“Same to Verse No.21”

46-27

And indeed We destroyed the towns which are around you, and repeated Our signs that they may turn (to Us).

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا مَا حَوْلَكُمْ مِنَ الْقُرَىٰ وَصَرَّفْنَا الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

“Same to Verse No.21”

46-28

Then why did those whom they had taken as gods besides Allah (for achieving) nearness (to Him), not help them? No, they disappeared from them, and that was their falsehood and that which they used to forge.

فَلَوْلَا نَصَرَهُمُ الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ قُرْبَانًا آلِهَةً ۖ بَلْ ضَلُّوا عَنْهُمْ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ إِفْكُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ

“Same to Verse No.21”

46-29

And when We turned towards you a party of the jinn seeking to hear the Quran, so when they were present before it they said, “”Be silent and listen.”” Then when the (recital) had finished they turned towards their people (others like them) warning (them).

وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَا إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِنَ الْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقُرْآنَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوا أَنْصِتُوا ۖ فَلَمَّا قُضِيَ وَلَّوْا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِمْ مُنْذِرِينَ

A group of jinn listened to the Quran and responded to it.

46-30

They said, “”O our people! we have heard a book sent down after Musa, confirming that which is before it, it guides towards the truth and towards a straight path,

قَالُوا يَا قَوْمَنَا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا كِتَابًا أُنْزِلَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مُوسَىٰ مُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْحَقِّ وَإِلَىٰ طَرِيقٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

“Same to Verse No.29”

46-31

O our people! Respond to one who invites towards Allah and believe in Him, He will forgive you your sins and protect you from the painful punishment.

يَا قَوْمَنَا أَجِيبُوا دَاعِيَ اللَّهِ وَآمِنُوا بِهِ يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُجِرْكُمْ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

“Same to Verse No.29”

46-32

And he who does not respond to one who invites towards Allah, then he cannot defeat (Allah) in the earth and there will be no guardians for him besides Him. Those are in clear error,””

وَمَنْ لَا يُجِبْ دَاعِيَ اللَّهِ فَلَيْسَ بِمُعْجِزٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَيْسَ لَهُ مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءُ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ

“Same to Verse No.29”

46-33

Did they not consider that Allah Who created the skies and the earth, and was not tired in creating them, is able to give life to the dead? Why not! He certainly has power over everything.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَلَمْ يَعْيَ بِخَلْقِهِنَّ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ ۚ بَلَىٰ إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Allah (SWT) is all powerful to give life to the dead.

46-34

And the day those who do not believe will be presented before the fire (and asked). “”Is not (all this happening) in reality?”” They will say, “”Why not by our Fosterer (it is real).””He will say, “”Then taste the punishment because you used to reject (it).

وَيَوْمَ يُعْرَضُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا عَلَى النَّارِ أَلَيْسَ هَٰذَا بِالْحَقِّ ۖ قَالُوا بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَا ۚ قَالَ فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ

Condition of the infidels in the hereafter is described.

46-35

So be patient, as those among the messengers possessing determination were patient, and do not seek to hasten for them (the punishment). The day they will see that which they are promised, it will be as if they did not stay but for an hour of a day. (Your responsibility is) conveyance of the message. Then who (else) will be destroyed except the transgressing people? (R 4, P 25 ¼)

فَاصْبِرْ كَمَا صَبَرَ أُولُو الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ وَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلْ لَهُمْ ۚ كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَ مَا يُوعَدُونَ لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا سَاعَةً مِنْ نَهَارٍ ۚ بَلَاغٌ ۚ فَهَلْ يُهْلَكُ إِلَّا الْقَوْمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ

Instructions are given to Prophet Muhammed (PBH) to exhibit patience and convey the message.
