Younus (Jonah)

10-20

And they say, “”Why has not a sign been sent down on him from his Fosterer?”” So tell (them), “”(I do not know) the unrevealed (affairs, it) is only for Allah (to decide), so wait, I (too), with you, will be of those who wait.”” (R 2)

وَيَقُولُونَ لَوْلَا أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ ۖ فَقُلْ إِنَّمَا الْغَيْبُ لِلَّهِ فَانْتَظِرُوا إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الْمُنْتَظِرِينَ

The demand for a miracle is repeated and they are answered accordingly

10-21

And when We make mankind to taste mercy after the harm that had afflicted them, then they devise a plan against Our signs. Say, “”Allah is Fastest at planning, Our messengers certainly record that which you all plan.””

وَإِذَا أَذَقْنَا النَّاسَ رَحْمَةً مِنْ بَعْدِ ضَرَّاءَ مَسَّتْهُمْ إِذَا لَهُمْ مَكْرٌ فِي آيَاتِنَا ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ أَسْرَعُ مَكْرًا ۚ إِنَّ رُسُلَنَا يَكْتُبُونَ مَا تَمْكُرُونَ

When people are prosperous they plan against religion, all their deeds are recorded.

10-22

He it is Who makes you travel in the land and the sea, till when you are in the ships, and they sail with them due to a pleasant breeze and they are happy with it, a violent wind comes to it and (with it) a wave comes to them from all sides and they think that they are encompassed therein, (then) they pray to Allah making religion exclusively for Him, “”If You deliver us from this then we will definitely be of those who are grateful.””

هُوَ الَّذِي يُسَيِّرُكُمْ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ ۖ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا كُنْتُمْ فِي الْفُلْكِ وَجَرَيْنَ بِهِمْ بِرِيحٍ طَيِّبَةٍ وَفَرِحُوا بِهَا جَاءَتْهَا رِيحٌ عَاصِفٌ وَجَاءَهُمُ الْمَوْجُ مِنْ كُلِّ مَكَانٍ وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ أُحِيطَ بِهِمْ ۙ دَعَوُا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ لَئِنْ أَنْجَيْتَنَا مِنْ هَٰذِهِ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ

The condition of a people who are engulfed in a storm and who are sure of getting drowned is described. In this condition they are sure that no one other than Allah (SWT) can save them, consequently they pray only to Him and He saves them, but instead of being grateful they rebel against religion which is harmful only to them.

10-23

But when He delivers them (from the storm), they rebel in the earth without having the right to do so. O mankind! your rebellion is only against yourselves, a provision of the life of this world, then to Us will be your return, then We will inform you of that which you used to do.

فَلَمَّا أَنْجَاهُمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَبْغُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ ۗ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِكُمْ ۖ مَتَاعَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Life is compared with rain water. Water is the cause of growth of vegetation, similarly life is the cause of the growth of human beings. Water keeps vegetation intact similarly life keeps the human being intact. When water is removed from vegetation through evaporation, it crumbles to pieces 18:45, similarly when life is removed, a human being dies decays and disintegrates into pieces. Life is thus as temporary as vegetation whereas the hereafter is everlasting and good for believers and bad for the infidels.

10-24

The likeness of the life of this world is only like water which We send down from the sky, then with the (water) mixes up the vegetation of the earth, from which mankind and cattle eat, to the extent that the earth takes up its decoration and is adorned (with luxuriant vegetation); and (when) its owners think that they are all powerful over (getting full benefit out of) it, Our command comes (down on it) by night or by day and We make it a reaped (field of vegetation) as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain the signs in detail for a people who reflect.

إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَاءٍ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهِ نَبَاتُ الْأَرْضِ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ النَّاسُ وَالْأَنْعَامُ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا أَخَذَتِ الْأَرْضُ زُخْرُفَهَا وَازَّيَّنَتْ وَظَنَّ أَهْلُهَا أَنَّهُمْ قَادِرُونَ عَلَيْهَا أَتَاهَا أَمْرُنَا لَيْلًا أَوْ نَهَارًا فَجَعَلْنَاهَا حَصِيدًا كَأَنْ لَمْ تَغْنَ بِالْأَمْسِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

“Same to Verse No.23”

10-25

And Allah invites you to the home of peace and guides whom He wills to the straight path.

وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُو إِلَىٰ دَارِ السَّلَامِ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

“Same to Verse No.23”

10-26

For those who do good is a good (reward) and more, neither darkness nor disgrace will cover their faces, those are the inhabitants of the garden, they will stay therein.

لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا الْحُسْنَىٰ وَزِيَادَةٌ ۖ وَلَا يَرْهَقُ وُجُوهَهُمْ قَتَرٌ وَلَا ذِلَّةٌ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

“Same to Verse No.23”

10-27

And those who earn evils, (their) reward (will be) similar to their evil and disgrace will cover them, there will be no protector for them (to protect them) from Allah, their faces will be as if they were covered with pieces of dark night, those are the inhabitants of the fire, they will stay therein.

وَالَّذِينَ كَسَبُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ جَزَاءُ سَيِّئَةٍ بِمِثْلِهَا وَتَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ مَا لَهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ عَاصِمٍ ۖ كَأَنَّمَا أُغْشِيَتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ قِطَعًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مُظْلِمًا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

“Same to Verse No.23”

10-28

And on the day when We will gather them all together, then say to those who associated partners (with Us), “”(Stay in) your places! you and your partners.”” Then We will separate them one from the other and their (presumed) partners will say, “”It was not us that you served (worshipped),

وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا مَكَانَكُمْ أَنْتُمْ وَشُرَكَاؤُكُمْ ۚ فَزَيَّلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ شُرَكَاؤُهُمْ مَا كُنْتُمْ إِيَّانَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Objects worshipped besides Allah (SWT) will declare that they were unaware of their being worshipped and will go away from the worshippers who will be returned to Allah (SWT) and everyone will go through his record of deeds.

10-29

so Allah is sufficient as a witness between us and you that we were unaware of your serving (worshipping) us.””

فَكَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ إِنْ كُنَّا عَنْ عِبَادَتِكُمْ لَغَافِلِينَ

“Same to Verse No.28”

10-30

There every soul will examine that which it had sent before, and they will be returned to Allah their Real Guardian, and that which they used to falsely fabricate will go away from them. (R 3, P 10

هُنَالِكَ تَبْلُو كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَا أَسْلَفَتْ ۚ وَرُدُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ مَوْلَاهُمُ الْحَقِّ ۖ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ

“Same to Verse No.28”

10-31

Say, “”Who provides you from the skies and the earth or who is it that has power over the hearing and the sight and who brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living and who governs the affair (of the universe)?”” They will immediately say, “”Allah,”” then say, “”Will you not then guard?””

قُلْ مَنْ يَرْزُقُكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَمَّنْ يَمْلِكُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَمَنْ يُخْرِجُ الْحَيَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ وَيُخْرِجُ الْمَيِّتَ مِنَ الْحَيِّ وَمَنْ يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ ۚ فَسَيَقُولُونَ اللَّهُ ۚ فَقُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Powers of Allah (SWT) are described. 2 plus 2 is 4, all other answers are wrong. Allah (SWT) is the Real Guardian and Fosterer, this is the truth and worshipping objects besides Allah (SWT) is wrong. Still those who exceed the limits turn away from the truth and do not believe.

10-32

So, that is Allah your Real Fosterer. Then what is left after truth except error? How then are you turned away (from the truth)?

فَذَٰلِكُمُ اللَّهُ رَبُّكُمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَاذَا بَعْدَ الْحَقِّ إِلَّا الضَّلَالُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصْرَفُونَ

“Same to Verse No.31”

10-33

Thus the word of your Fosterer is proved true on those who exceed the limits that they will not believe.

كَذَٰلِكَ حَقَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ فَسَقُوا أَنَّهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

“Same to Verse No.31”

10-34

Say, “”Is there anyone among your (presumed) partners (of Allah) who begins the creation then gets it reproduced?”” Say, “”Allah begins the creation then gets it reproduced, how then are you turned away (from the truth)?””

قُلْ هَلْ مِنْ شُرَكَائِكُمْ مَنْ يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤْفَكُونَ

Polytheists are questioned about the powers of the objects they worship besides Allah (SWT), their worship is based just on conjecture and not on truth.

10-35

Say, “”Is there anyone among your (presumed) partners (of Allah) who guides to the truth?”” Say, “”Allah guides to the truth.”” Then has He, Who guides to the truth, greater right that He should be followed, or he who does not go aright unless he (himself) is guided? Then what is the matter with you? How do you judge?””

قُلْ هَلْ مِنْ شُرَكَائِكُمْ مَنْ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْحَقِّ ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ يَهْدِي لِلْحَقِّ ۗ أَفَمَنْ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْحَقِّ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُتَّبَعَ أَمَّنْ لَا يَهِدِّي إِلَّا أَنْ يُهْدَىٰ ۖ فَمَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ

“Same to Verse No.34”

10-36

And most of them follow nothing but conjecture (and) conjecture is certainly of no use in anything compared to the truth, and Allah is certainly the Knower of that which they do.

وَمَا يَتَّبِعُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ إِلَّا ظَنًّا ۚ إِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ

“Same to Verse No.34”

10-37

And this Quran is not such that it could be invented by someone besides Allah, but it confirms that which is before it and it is a detailed explanation of the book (prescribed law) from the Fosterer of the worlds, in which there is nothing doubtful.

وَمَا كَانَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنُ أَنْ يُفْتَرَىٰ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلَٰكِنْ تَصْدِيقَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ الْكِتَابِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

The Quran contains laws for the peaceful existence of the human race just like laws of nature are meant for the peaceful existence of the whole creation. Everything living or dead is attracted towards the center of the earth 77:25-26 due to which water flows from a higher level to a lower level and through which you can develop hydroelectrical power. Can these laws be substituted by other laws? These laws have been laid down by Allah (SWT) and it was He Who made some human being discover them. Human beings cannot invent laws of nature. Similarly it is Allah (SWT) Who has layed down the laws contained in the Quran and no one else can invent such or similar laws.

10-38

Or do they say, “”He has invented it.”” Say, “”(If any human being can invent it) then bring one chapter like it and call whomever you can besides Allah, if you are truthful.””

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِسُورَةٍ مِثْلِهِ وَادْعُوا مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

“Same to Verse No.37”

10-39

No! they deny it because of that (part of it) which they cannot grasp through their (existing) knowledge and (because) its interpretation has not yet come to them. Thus, did those before them deny, then see how the end of the unjust was (brought about).””

بَلْ كَذَّبُوا بِمَا لَمْ يُحِيطُوا بِعِلْمِهِ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِيلُهُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الظَّالِمِينَ◌

The Quran contains facts about the structure and origin of the Universe 2:29, 21:30, expanding Universe 51:47, 55:7-9, end of the universe 21:104, 81:11, 82:1, 84:1, four geological eras 41:10, theory of Isostacy 16:15, sending down of iron 57:25 barrier between fresh water and salt water 25:53, embryological changes before the birth of man 22:5, 23:12-14, 96:2 etc This knowledge was not existing 1400 years ago when the Quran was revealed, it was acquired hardly 50 to 100 years back. Many people living during those days might not have understood these particular verses of the Quran and rejected it, while others might have believed without argument.
