He it is Who makes you travel in the land and the sea, till when you are in the ships, and they sail with them due to a pleasant breeze and they are happy with it, a violent wind comes to it and (with it) a wave comes to them from all sides and they think that they are encompassed therein, (then) they pray to Allah making religion exclusively for Him, “”If You deliver us from this then we will definitely be of those who are grateful.””
The condition of a people who are engulfed in a storm and who are sure of getting drowned is described. In this condition they are sure that no one other than Allah (SWT) can save them, consequently they pray only to Him and He saves them, but instead of being grateful they rebel against religion which is harmful only to them.
