54-1

Splitting of the Moon:

The splitting of the moon refers to the famous miracle which Prophet Muhammed (was made to perform when the moon appeared cloven in two parts. This incident is related by a number of his companions and is accepted as correct by both Muslim & Bukhari. There is a very old tradition in south-west India (Malabar) that Chakrawati Farmas, one of their kings had observed, the splitting of the moon.

And when We said to the angels, “”Bow down before Adam,”” so they (all) bowed down except Iblis, he was of the jinn so he went beyond the limits of the commandment of his Fosterer. What! would you then take him and his descendants as friends besides Me while they are your enemies? (The friendship of Iblis, compared to the friendship of Allah, is) an evil exchange for those who are unjust.

And He gives you everything which you ask from Him and if you count Allah’s favours you will not be able to compute them. Man is certainly unjust, ungrateful. (R 5)

No! they deny it because of that (part of it) which they cannot grasp through their (existing) knowledge and (because) its interpretation has not yet come to them. Thus, did those before them deny, then see how the end of the unjust was (brought about).””

The Quran contains facts about the structure and origin of the Universe 2:29, 21:30, expanding Universe 51:47, 55:7-9, end of the universe 21:104, 81:11, 82:1, 84:1, four geological eras 41:10, theory of Isostacy 16:15, sending down of iron 57:25 barrier between fresh water and salt water 25:53, embryological changes before the birth of man 22:5, 23:12-14, 96:2 etc This knowledge was not existing 1400 years ago when the Quran was revealed, it was acquired hardly 50 to 100 years back. Many people living during those days might not have understood these particular verses of the Quran and rejected it, while others might have believed without argument.

And the Jews say, “”Uzair is the son of Allah,”” and the Christians say, “”The Messiah is the son of Allah.”” That is their saying with their mouths, they imitate the saying of those who did not believe earlier, may Allah destroy them, how they are turned away (from the truth)!

The Jews, the Christians and the infidels wrongfully ascribe sons to Allah (SWT) Who is free and above all this and consider their priests, monks and Isa (PBH) as their fosterers although they were ordered to serve only one God (Allah SWT) without associating any partners with Him. They also worked against Islam but Allah (SWT) will make Islam prevail over all religions.

Allah does not task a soul except to its capacity, for it, is (the benefit of) what it has earned and against it, is (the harm of) what it has earned. Our Fosterer! do not catch us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Fosterer! and do not lay on us a burden like the one which was laid by You on those before us. Our Fosterer! and do not lay on us (a burden for) which we do not have the strength to bear, and pardon us, and protectively forgive us, and have mercy on us, You are our Guardian so help us against the people who are infidels. Whatever is in the skies and whatever is in the earth is Allahs. And whether you manifest that which is in your souls or hide it, Allah will call you to account for it, then He will protectively forgive whom He wills and will punish whom He wills and Allah has power over everything.

“It is separately reported by Abu Huriara (R.A) and Ibn-e-Abbas (R.A) that when this power over everything.” verse was revealed stating that one would have to account for that which is in his heart whether one makes it known to others or hides it, the companions (R.A) of the prophet (PBH) felt it hard and severe and came to the prophet (PBH) to express their concern. In reply to this the last two verses i.e 285 and 286 were revealed. Abi Masood (R.A.) reports that the messenger (PBH) of Allah (SWT) had said, ‘One who recites the last two verses of Surat-ul-Baqarah (i.e.285 and 286) during the night, it will be sufficient for him (Bukhari and Muslim). The devil appears to influence two important activities of the mind/heart through his instigations (was waas)!

1. Imagination and

2. Intention. A poor young man, can imagine a very rich and beautiful lady as his wife without any intention or plan to marry her, this imagination is an evil act yet he does not intend to harm anyone. It is probably about such (waswaas) that Abu Huraira (R.A.) reports. ‘The messenger (PBH) of Allah (SWT) observed, “verily Allah (SWT) forgave my people the evil promptings which arise within their hearts as long as they did not speak about them or did not act upon them (Bukhari; Muslim). Enemies of Islam had intended and planned to murder Ibrahim (PBH), Isa (PBH) and Muhammed (PBH) but they could not do so because Allah (SWT) had saved them. In this case, there is the bad intention and the cruel plan to kill innocent persons for no fault of theirs, therefore even if these persons could not execute their plan they are accountable, whether they had made their plan known to others or had kept it a secret because Allah (SWT) knows all secrets. The problem of punishing or forgiving such persons totally depends on Allah (SWT) because He has We may forget to implement some order of Allah (SWT) or commit a mistake while executing His orders, therefore we have to pray to Him for not catching us for such things and request him not to lay a burden on us as He had layed on our predecessors and a burden for which we do not have the capacity to bear. We should pray to Him for pardoning our past sins, protecting us from future sins, showering His mercy on us as our Guardian and finally helping us to invite the infidels towards Islam, through our faith and deed or giving us domination over them.”
