And Muhammed is no more than a messenger, messengers have passed before him, then if he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels? And whoever turns back on his heels, he will not harm Allah in the least and Allah will reward those who are grateful.
“In the battle of Uhad Prophet Muhammed (PBH) received severe wounds. This prompted the enemies to spread the rumor that he was slain. Some hypocrites remarked that if he were a messenger of Allah (SWT) he could not have been slain. Those with weak belief thought of going back to their previous religious beliefs. Some Muslims became desperate and lost hope while others decided that when the prophet (PBH) was himself slain then they too must fight and get slain. This commotion came to an end when Kaab bin Malik (R.A) saw the prophet (PBH) and announced that he was alive. This is stated to be the occasion for revealing the verse under discussion. The message that is communicated is that Muhammed (PBH) was a messenger of Allah (SWT) and all His messengers faced death, herefore his death should not make Muslims turn away from Islam. When Prophet Muhammed (PBH) actually died there was obviously a greater commotion which was set at rest by Abu Bakr (R.A.) by reciting this verse.”
