Yousuf (Joseph)

12-80

So when they despaired of him they went apart conferring secretly. The eldest of them said, “”Do you not know that your father had taken an undertaking from you in (the name of) Allah, and earlier (too) you failed (in keeping up your undertaking) in the case of Yusuf. Therefore I will not leave this land till my father permits me or Allah decides (something) for me and He is the Best of judges.

فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْأَسُوا مِنْهُ خَلَصُوا نَجِيًّا ۖ قَالَ كَبِيرُهُمْ أَلَمْ تَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ أَبَاكُمْ قَدْ أَخَذَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَوْثِقًا مِنَ اللَّهِ وَمِنْ قَبْلُ مَا فَرَّطْتُمْ فِي يُوسُفَ ۖ فَلَنْ أَبْرَحَ الْأَرْضَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْذَنَ لِي أَبِي أَوْ يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ لِي ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحَاكِمِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-81

Return to your father and say: O our father! your son committed theft and we do not bear witness except regarding that which we know and we could not be protectors of the unseen.

ارْجِعُوا إِلَىٰ أَبِيكُمْ فَقُولُوا يَا أَبَانَا إِنَّ ابْنَكَ سَرَقَ وَمَا شَهِدْنَا إِلَّا بِمَا عَلِمْنَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِلْغَيْبِ حَافِظِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-82

And inquire in the city in which we were, and (also from) the caravan with which we travelled and we are certainly truthful.””

وَاسْأَلِ الْقَرْيَةَ الَّتِي كُنَّا فِيهَا وَالْعِيرَ الَّتِي أَقْبَلْنَا فِيهَا ۖ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-83

He (Yaqub) said, “”No! your souls have induced this affair for you so patience is good. May be Allah will bring them all together to me, He is certainly the Knowing, the Wise.””

قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنْفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا ۖ فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ ۖ عَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي بِهِمْ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-84

And he turned away from them and said, “”O my sorrow for Yusuf,”” and his eyes became white due to grief but he suppressed.

وَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَا أَسَفَىٰ عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ وَابْيَضَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ فَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-85

They said, “”By Allah! you will not cease to remember Yusuf till your health is ruined or you become one of those who perish.””

قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ تَفْتَأُ تَذْكُرُ يُوسُفَ حَتَّىٰ تَكُونَ حَرَضًا أَوْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْهَالِكِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-86

He said, “”I expose my distress and grief only to Allah and I know from Allah that which you do not know.

قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَشْكُو بَثِّي وَحُزْنِي إِلَى اللَّهِ وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-87

O my sons! go and inquire about Yusuf and his brother and do not despair of the mercy of Allah, no one despairs of the mercy of Allah except the people who are infidels.””

يَا بَنِيَّ اذْهَبُوا فَتَحَسَّسُوا مِنْ يُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ وَلَا تَيْأَسُوا مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَا يَيْأَسُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْقَوْمُ الْكَافِرُونَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-88

So, when they entered in his (Yusuf’s) presence, they said, “O you who are mighty! Harm has afflicted us and our people and we have brought poor merchandise, so give us full measure (of provision) and be charitable to us, Allah certainly rewards the charitable.”

فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ قَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الْعَزِيزُ مَسَّنَا وَأَهْلَنَا الضُّرُّ وَجِئْنَا بِبِضَاعَةٍ مُزْجَاةٍ فَأَوْفِ لَنَا الْكَيْلَ وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَيْنَا ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَجْزِي الْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-89

He said, “”Do you know what you did with Yusuf and his brother while you were ignorant.””

قَالَ هَلْ عَلِمْتُمْ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ بِيُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ إِذْ أَنْتُمْ جَاهِلُونَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-90

They said, “”You! are you indeed Yusuf ?”” He said, “”I am Yusuf and this is my brother, Allah has indeed been gracious to us; (for) him who guards (against evil) and is patient, Allah certainly does not waste the reward of the doers of good.””

قَالُوا أَإِنَّكَ لَأَنْتَ يُوسُفُ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا يُوسُفُ وَهَٰذَا أَخِي ۖ قَدْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا ۖ إِنَّهُ مَنْ يَتَّقِ وَيَصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-91

They said, “”By Allah, Allah has indeed preferred you above us and indeed we were at fault.””

قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ آثَرَكَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَخَاطِئِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-92

He said, “”Let there be no reproach on you this day. May Allah protectively forgive you and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful ones.

قَالَ لَا تَثْرِيبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ ۖ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-93

Go with this shirt of mine and put it on the face of my father, (his power of) seeing will come (back to him) and come to me with all your people.”” (R 10)

اذْهَبُوا بِقَمِيصِي هَٰذَا فَأَلْقُوهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِ أَبِي يَأْتِ بَصِيرًا وَأْتُونِي بِأَهْلِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-94

And when the caravan departed, their father said, “”I certainly perceive the smell of Yusuf, if you do not consider me weak in mind due to old age.””

وَلَمَّا فَصَلَتِ الْعِيرُ قَالَ أَبُوهُمْ إِنِّي لَأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ ۖ لَوْلَا أَنْ تُفَنِّدُونِ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-95

They said, “”By Allah, you are certainly in your old error.”” (P 12 ¼) 17

قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَفِي ضَلَالِكَ الْقَدِيمِ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-96

So, when the conveyer of the good news came, he put (Yusuf’s shirt) on his face when (his power of) seeing returned. He said. “Did I not say to you that I know from Allah that which you do not know?”

فَلَمَّا أَنْ جَاءَ الْبَشِيرُ أَلْقَاهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِ فَارْتَدَّ بَصِيرًا ۖ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-97

They said, “”O our father! ask for protective forgiveness for our sins on our behalf, we were certainly at fault.””

قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا اسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا خَاطِئِينَ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-98

He said, “”I will ask my Fosterer for protectively forgiving you, He is certainly the Protectively Forgiving, the Merciful.””

قَالَ سَوْفَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكُمْ رَبِّي ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

“Same to Verse No.58”

12-99

So when they entered (in the presence of) Yusuf, he took his parents to stay with him and said, Enter Egypt in safety, if Allah wills.””

فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ آوَىٰ إِلَيْهِ أَبَوَيْهِ وَقَالَ ادْخُلُوا مِصْرَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ آمِنِينَ

Finally, the family of Yusuf (PBH) was reunited and they bowed down before him in reverence and thus the dream was fulfilled 12:4. The patience of Yaquub (PBH) and Yusuf (PBH) was rewarded for which all were grateful. Such historic facts serve as a lesson.
