Al-A’raf (The Heights)

0-1

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Our Prophet (PBH), through the very first revelation of the Quran, was ordered:
“Recite in the name of your Fosterer…” (Chapter 96: Verse 1) and the name of his and our Fosterer is Allah (SWT), as is evident from the very first verse of the first chapter of the Quran:
“Praise is due only for Allah (SWT), the Fosterer of the worlds”. (Chapter 1: Verse 1)
In view of this order of Allah (SWT), we should recite/read before starting the recitation or reading of the Holy Quran which is a part of the Quran, occurring at the beginning of 113 out of 114 chapters of the Quran and also as part of Chapter 27: Verse 30 of the Quran. Through Chapter 16: Verse 98, Allah Taala further orders:
“So when you recite/read the Quran, seek the protection of Allah from the accursed devil”.
This means that we are required to pray; (Aoozu Billahi min Ash shaitaanir Rajeem) meaning: “I seek the protection of Allah from the accursed devil”, even before reciting or reading: (Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem)

(This Quran is) a book sent down to you, so that through it you may warn (people), so let there be no difficulty in your heart on account of it, and it is a reminder for the believers.

The purpose of sending down the Quran is mentioned.

7-4

And how many a city We destroyed, so Our punishment came to it by night or while they slept in the afternoon.

Punishment of Allah (SWT) can come at any time.

7-5

And when Our punishment came to them, their cry was nothing except that they said, “”We were certainly unjust.””

Infidels accept their mistake only after seeing or experiencing the punishment.

7-6

So We will definitely question those to whom We sent (Our messengers) and We will definitely question the messengers.

The messenger and those addressed will be questioned.

7-7

Then We will definitely narrate to them with knowledge because We were never absent.

The response of the people to the message and the messenger of Allah (SWT) is known to Him because He is always present everywhere.

7-8

And the weighing on that day will be true (correct). Then as for him whose weight (of good deeds) will be heavy, then those will be the persons who will be successful.

It appears that only good deeds have weight and weighing will be precise.

7-9

And as for him whose weight (of good deeds) will be light, then those will be the persons who will cause loss to themselves because they used to be unjust to Our signs.

7-10

And We have established you in the earth and We have made therein (means) of your livelihood, (but) the gratitude which you express is little. (R 1)

It is only Allah (SWT) Who has established human beings on earth and provided them livelihood but they hardly acknowledge this obligation and blessing of Allah (SWT)
